Magnavox Dvd Vcr Recorder Combo Reviews

This item is a refurbished model that works just like it was new! We have been dubbing VHS to DVDs at the rate of about 3-4 per day in order not to overheat the unit and it is working like a champ! It is a great way to convert your old home movies and VHS tapes that you recorded off of the TV. Just remember, because of the macrovision technology included in most of the commercial VHS for years to prevent piracy, you cannot convert the retail VHS movies.even if you put tape over the tab area. I would recommend purchasing one of these units if you have lots of VHS to convert like we did.

We had about 75! Verified purchase: Yes Condition: Pre-owned. Good features at reasonable price but wish remote was better designed. This was a refurbished unit and work correctly so far.

But lately the manufacturers seem to be degrading the quality of their units to point of hard failures much sooner than should be the case. Considering I always have mine hooked up to Surge protected feeds I hope this one last more than a couple of years. The repair on these if it more than a simple adjustment isn't worth taking to the shops anymore. Also getting harder to find units that allow taping for viewing at a later date. Thsi unit does allow that both in DVD and video format. Easy to hookup with clearly labeled connection on the back and 3 right at front for cameras or portable devices.

I find that feature a godsend for transfering or just ease of showing digital pictures of video through the unit and having the connection r ight at the front makes it very simple. This unit is reasonably heavy so it donesn't move on you just from inserting a vcr tape like many of the light weight cheapies do. I have not had a lot of time to fully check out repeatedly on all of the functions and the remote takes some getting used to where the correct buttons are to activate the feature you want.

Myself I feel the remote isn't organized in a easy accesable way. I always felt major command features should be at the top of the remote like VCR vs DVD or else set up with and upper and lower box with the corresponding buttons for those features.

Unfortuantely manufacturers don't have a clue to a universal arrangement and I still suffer from finding the correct button for the feaure I want when I want it so have to go back and rewind or backup the program to see what I missed while I deal with my remote location issues. It may be just me but I also feel it is the manufactueres responsiblity to do their research and make quality products that are seamless for the customers to use to make the experience a very postive one. Yes I might be picky but after being an R.N. Almost 40 years I have had to live to a high standard and expect the same when I spend my hard earned money. My 1st Magnavox from 20 some years ago ran like a trooper for many years of trouble free service so thus I chose to go with them again. Easy basic operation and hook up, produces good copies to CD's or VHS My first impression was that the unit seemed to be more complicated than it really is. After reading the setup instruction carefully all connections were made and I was making copies of VHS and Mini cam tapes to CD's very easily.

Magnavox

The unit does require a separate VHS or CD player connected in line to reproduce the copies. I simply set my Magnavox dual VHS & CD/DVD player on top, connected the two units with RCA plugs, ordered and received a HDMI 6' connector for hook up to the TV. Everything works well and the unit produces a very good CD copy of the original tape and also will record and burn directly from the TV. Of course, the quality depends on the tapes being copied. I have saved a lot of home movies and vacation footage to longer lasting CD's and can now reuse the tapes to record new footage for later conversion. The dubbing and insertion of menu's and chapter titles takes a bit longer for a greenhorn to get the hang of and it always help if you know someone to get 'how to' help from which is the reason for the 4 rating instead of 5. Replaces the one I had before with no effort.

I have had two of these for several years and I sometimes have occasion to dub VHS tapes to DVD. Both the old unites have started to eat tapes while still playing and recording DVDs. I needed to replace one so I could dub and because it was beginning to malfunction, so I went online for one exactly like it to avoid having to hassle with new wiring and updated components - ease of installation.

This one seems to work okay, although I haven't tested the VHS part, and it was easy to hook up to all the same wires that were already there, which was my primary goal. No muss, no fuss. Verified purchase: Yes Condition: Refurbished.
