Hi all, after much surfing looking for the answers to my many questions with no luck all the sensible talk was coming from here. I have a conroe kenstfield fsb1066 quad core cpu(dual channel ddr 400/ddr II 667) motherboard. A Deskstar sata 400gb a X-power GTX light 580 power supply The question is will this set up run a Geforce gtx 470 graphics card? If knot what will i have to replace? Is there an ideal motherboard and cpu to run this card? Many thx and poss sorry for silly questions i am totally new to all this.

It looks like it's one of these two: Either: or the Revision 2.0 version: Does CPUz say anything like 'R2.0'? From what I can tell, the card should work with either motherboard. However, you are probably going to have to update to the latest BIOS version. To do this, you will need to know whether or not you have the 'revision 2.0' version of the motherboard. If CPUZ doesn't indicate it, you might be able to find it in BIOS or by carefully watching your POST screen. It might actually say it on the motherboard itself. Open your case and check it out (and also, just confirm that the motherboard looks like the ones I linked).
Well my friend i m afraid you cant set up gtx 470 with that motherboard u see your motherboard has pci-e @x4 which is quite slow u will need an lane running at x16 This is incorrect. I think you are confusing the PCIe 'form factor' with the 'mode' which is understandable. X16 is a form factor. 16x is a mode. Brilliant naming. How could anyone ever confuse those?
The x16 is the 'long' pcie slot. He has exactly one of those on his motherboard. 16x is a mode. His board only supports 4x for that PCIe slot but this is ok. The card can work in 4x mode.
If you look at the recommended graphics cars for that motherboards, many of them are PCIe 2.0 x16 cards. Got it running again with my old graphics card and updated my bios, it went from bad to worse after that, tryed the new graphics card after that and still no joy, was coming up with boot errors, reinserted my old graphics card and is now saying 'reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key' appears to have gone completely pear shaped, was planning on learning abit about all this and trying a home build so it would appear now i have no choice unless anyone has any ideas?? Tryed again tonight and no luck, i don't think the graphics card is the problem, the old one worked before bios update, it has all stopped working since the update. After i press the on button(with old graphics card in)this is what it says 'Hardware initiate failed,please check device!!

The bios does not be installed.(exact wording) Press g to continue!' , at this point my keyboard is on and i can press g, it then moves onto saying 'Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key' at this point i cannot hit any key because my keyboard is not powered up.So cannot get anywhere now, have you seen this before?
